Leading into the Summit, BikeWalk NC will be offering a Traffic Cycling for Transportation Professionals class on Thursday, September 14th from 8am-6pm. This class is oriented toward transportation engineers, planners, and law enforcement, but is open to all adults.
The intensive 9-hour training course teaches best practices for bicycle operation in urban traffic. Participants improve their understanding of effective traffic negotiation techniques and relevant traffic laws while enhancing their bike handling skills and increasing their confidence. Common bicyclist crash types are examined in the context of operator behavior. Implications for transportation planning, facility design, and law enforcement are discussed.
Students will receive certification for completing League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling Class, which is a prerequisite for LCI certification. The class is taught by Master LCI Instructor Steven Goodridge, and includes both classroom and on-bike portions. Steve has taught this class at previous Summits and it always receives rave reviews. (AICP credits for planners have been applied for)
The class is offered at a special rate of $50, and you can sign up for it during your registration to the Summit.
